The Cornell Box was inspired by Joseph Cornell and passing the message about women empowerment. For my box, I wanted to share a part of who inspired me to raise awareness for powerful women and making history to this day. I want to advocate women's rights in political, economic, social equality, equal rights, and opportunities for men and women. As a latina, I want to cause more awareness for the color women and including sexual orientation, race, economic status, and nationality. Not only have men created history but it seems like the high school textbook seem to forget the time when women such as Shirley Chisholm who became the first African-American woman elected to Congress in U.S. history in 1968. Or in 1967, Kathrine Switzer became the first woman to run the Boston Marathon as a numbered entrant.

In my box, you can see many portrait of woman such as Michelle Obama, Rosa Park, Helen Keller, and other successful women. These women made an impact to the society and I want people to know who they are. For example, did you know the first USA flag was handmade from a woman name Betsy Ross. She is seen on the first row sewing the American Flag. Although it is not easy for women to achieved their recognition. When Katherine Switzer ran her first race, official Jock Semple attempted to stop Switzer and grab her official bib; however, he was shoved to the ground and she completed the race. She is seen in my box on the third row. As for the beauty supplies and the boot, it mean that women can like and wear whatever they desire but it should not define them. Women should not be look at as an object and should be seen as equality. Woman can rock any jewelry they wear such as nose piercing and earrings or any other adornments. As for the pictures of the girls, they are in their dresses and can be seen wearing sneakers to represent that they are involve with sports because girls can play sports too! The lego figure present that girls can play with legos and be SUPER as well! Have you not see the world around us? It is time to take action and stop stereotyping girls and women. We must give girls hope that they can change the world and be the successful women of their own goals, it's not just only for men.
